The world is growing rapidly. Better homes, lifestyles, living standards, medicines, technologies, means of travel, clean energies have all been developed because the human race has depended on and utilized scientific knowledge. Without it, we would have still lived in caves and tried to live through plagues. We owe our knowledge and betterment of lives to science. There is no doubt that advanced countries because of their scientific progress are now far ahead.
Singapore is one such example in which science is given more attention than any other subject. The children as young as 6 are exposed to scientific knowledge in this country and encouraged to do activities through hands on experiences to get better understanding of how the world works. It is through this basic exposure that children grow inquisitive of the world around them and then experiment to get answers.
In Singapore the primary education starts at a tender age of 6 till 12 and a general understanding of all subjects is given at school. But, it seems that the over-all school hours are not enough, for more Singaporeans are opting for tuition centers than ever before for extra hours of study. And usually the topic chosen for tuition is science, with math coming on second place. There are two reasons why people for primary science tuition, one is mostly because the concepts are a little tricky to understand than others subjects like languages which don’t have any concepts to be understood. And the second reason is that parents want their child to be a step ahead before the secondary school starts or just want them to lead in the class.
But not every tuition center can match your child’s needs. When choosing one that best suits the child the parents must:
Do an analysis of the child’s requirements:
This is the first and the most basic step towards helping him find a tuition center. First understand which subject the child requires more attention. Then it is suggested to look up those centers that has teachers who specialize in those particular subjects.
It is also required to check if maybe the child is able to work better with a one on one basis. Maybe he’ll be able to overcome the weakness if more attention is given to him by a personal tutor.
Make sure they are MOE registered:
In the past there have been cases where the heads and staff forged their credentials and earned lots of money and in order to avoid that the government declared only those tuition centers fit to work that were MOE registered. So after selecting a center check if it’s registered.
Do a background survey of their track:
This means checking if the teaching staff is NIE trained, what type of results were got from the previous batches of students and if it’s a safe environment of study.
Look for the nearest one:
Finally, the last step is to look for on that’s nearest to where you live. Not only will commuting be easier and cheaper but for primary aged students it is important to keep them nearby.
